For his feature debut, “Finding Tony,” director Raven Magwood Goodson teams up with NBA All-Star turned producer Anthony Davis. The indie film had its world premiere at Los Angeles, California’s TCL Chinese Theaters on Thursday, May 9. The project is directed by the acclaimed Raven Magwood Goodson, with executive producer Anthony Davis.
Stephen Bishop, a former cast member of BET’s “Being Mary Jane,” excels in his first leading role as Tony Greene. Bishop talked on how playing the part helped him deal with his own sadness and felt a strong emotional connection to the character’s path.
Bishop acknowledged in an interview with BSM Magazine that he had to take cues from his previous job as a leading man,
“Finding Tony” tells the tale of former NBA player Tony Greene as he struggles with his past and finds solace in coaching Lincoln Community College’s women’s basketball team. Tony’s life takes a radical turn when he meets Destiny, a gifted but troubled player. Together, they go on a path of self-discovery and healing, finally discovering hope and meaning in life.
On May 10, Finding Tony will only be available on findingtonyfilm.com. In June, it will be available on Amazon, Apple TV, and other TVOD platforms. Raven Magwood Gibson directed the movie.
